Tonight found me with a few hours to devote to some items that took a little time and patience. I found that I had a surprising amount of both left after the day, so I stole what I could.
First, I began to wire the lights for the rear light bar. Thankfully all the lights are connected via pigtails, so I simply wired in the pigtails and removed the lights. I created 4 separate circuits for the bar. Tail, Left Turn, Right Turn, and Reverse light. I need to remember to wire in a provision for a license plate light into the taillight circuit. Everything is cut and twisted together. My next project will be to solder all the connections and then wrap it up so it doesn't get tangled.
The second activity began purely from out of the blue. I had removed the front medallion from the hood last week and polished it with 0000 steel wool. It turned out to look great. I had considered purchasing a sticker set from a supplier to put on the medallion, but it was $15 and i'm not sure it would look all that great. So, for about $4 I bought a can of bright blue spray paint, I already had a can of bright red, and decided to do it. I started by masking off the areas to be painted then cut them out with a razor blade. trim, cut, cut, trim. This was the longest part of the entire process.
Finally, the stencil was made and the masking complete. I painted the red "CHEVROLET" first. I thought about stopping there and then masking it out and painting the blue tomorrow. I guess here is where my patience got thin. I decided to not mask but cover the freshly painted red and paint the blue bowtie. Luckily, it worked out great and I had the entire piece painted. I made quick order to remove the masking tape and was extremely pleased with how the final result turned out.
Frankly, it probably looks better now than when it came from the factory. There are a few places where the masking went a little too high. But some very careful sanding with 1000grit paper should clean it right up. I'm running out of "small" evening long projects. Before long, I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and really sink my teeth into it. But, with 4-H Summer Activities coming up next week......the sinking may have to wait. But for now, its time to sleep.
